A Pictorial Post of Childhood Food Adventure Guy & I Will Never Eat Again

'Member Fluffernutters? Read those ingredients!

Once Adventure Guy and I started reminiscing about unhealthy things we ate as kids because nobody knew any better, the list grew.

I grew up in New York State where these were a fave. Also Ding Dongs.

After skiing on Saturday, this was my fave TV dinner on a tray table to watch Get Smart

My family would watch TV on TV tables with a roaring fire in the fireplace, the dog asleep in front of it and the Saturday shows like Mission Impossible and the great stuff. Wonderful memories.

Adventure Guy loved these. He said he liked to pull out the middle and eat it first.

Time to 'fess up. Who grew up on Spam? I did! I liked the stuff!

The space program gave us many, many things. Tang was one of them. I LOVED that stuff. The amount of sugar in that is staggering.

Oh, those "whipped potatoes"

And, lest we forget, Adventure Guy’s fave TV dinner. He really went after those “whipped potatoes.”

Let’s hear it: what are the “never agains” from processed food of your growing up days???

    Little Debbie Cosmic Brownies
Kraft Macaroni & Cheese (powdered neon orange cheese subsititute CAN NOT be good for you!)

Air Heads & Sour Patch Straws – insane amounts of sugar and needless amounts of red dye!

Box mac and cheese! My senior year in college, it was the cheap eats. Some times without the milk or the margarine (of course) depending on budget.

Adventure Guy used to drool over Nutty Buddies but no longer! I bet he would spit it out now. His taste buds have been cleaned up!

Oh my gosh Kathleen this brought back some good memories – I too loved the swansons turkey and yes we as a family sat in front of the tv and enjoyed them on our tv trays. Someone would have to get up occassionally and adjust the antenna and then dad would put a piece of aluminum on the antenna toget better reception. Gun Smoke was a regular in our home. I never did get to enjoy Spam (but to tell you the truth Layne picked up a can the other night i am afraid i will have to try it fired he says)

Oh and the chemicals in those twinkies and ho hos lets not even go there. It is no wonder so many of us grew up with auto immune system diseases. but i must say the snowballs always got my sugar levels up and made me twitchy.

Thanks for sharing those great pictures. I wish i was as great at creating a blog like you. Although i do have to blame Coco for that she is challenged also.

    • Kathleen says:

Always looking forward to hearing about Coco’s next blog post. Her life is so interesting there at your bed and breakfast.

I admit, I still like a Twinkie now and again. Sweetie-pies were a favorite, (sometimes called moon pies) Stale cookies around marshmallow center covered in “chocolate” or “banana” flavored wax. mmmmm!

    • Kathleen says:

Gosh, Becky. You make it sound soooo…icky.

  4. OMG OMG – I love, love Devil Dogs! I grew up on the east coast but now live in the Midwest where we don’t get Drake’s. I have, more than once, been visiting family back east and gone to the store to buy myself a box! Yes, I remember fluff and tv dinners and tang.

    Came by from Lady Bloggers.
